The Geddy Lee specs say the instrument was introduced in 1998.

So, there is a possibility that this one was built for sale in Japan. I've seen the serials on non-export basses that were intended to be for sale only in Japan not conform to what Fender says about the CIJ MIJ basses before. Some of these find their way out of Japan by eBay and other methods.

Anyone else having their Geddy Lee numbers point to the mid 80's?

Mine is also "Crafted in Japan" and has exactly the same type of serial number as the one pictured by the OP. When looking at serial numbers to date the bass I just assumed I had to change the B for a P, so I thought it was an instrument produced in 2000. I got it second hand from a guitar store in Pennsylvania.

On that note. The neck plate in mine reads "Limited Edition", something I don't see in the more recently produced Geddy Lee basses. Was this model supposed to be limited edition but made "unlimited" due to popular demand?

I have recently ran across and purchased one of these instruments. My neck plate as well says Limited Edition, but The serial number starts with a B, indicating it was made in the 1980s. The Geddy Lee Jazz Bass wasn't even produced until 1998. Any ideas?

do they say "Made in Japan" or "Crafted in Japan"? from what i get from the support link above if they say "Crafted in Japan" then they were made from 97-98 onward....

mine says CIJ and starts with an S.... which leads me to believe it was made 07-08-ish
