I've come across a 1983-84 (seller not sure of exact year) Jazz for sale, pretty cheap. I'm not familiar with the different variations during those years. From my research, if it's an american made, it usually sells for over $1000.
Did they make imported versions of Jazz basses during the early 80's?
If so, what are they worth in good condition? What are American made models worth from 83-84?
It's supposed to be cream colored body with a white pick guard.
Pick ups have been replaced, not sure what's in it now (waiting for email reply from seller). Ditto about case, waiting for reply from seller.
If it's indeed a made in usa model, I hope to get original style pickups back in it, seems easy enough.

Any help, advice and info is greatly appreciated.
I'm a newbie here, American Tele owner, learning about the basses.

Congrats on your purchase. I have a 1983 Jazz bass and I think it is one of the best Jazz basses made although I am not a big fan of its look.
The single piece pickguard that negates the control plate is sort of strat-like. The original pickups have white covers and the controls are standard Vol-Vol-Tone using white strat knobs.
I think this model is better shielded with some sort of sheilding paint that is under the finish. The bass is very quiet while running the bridge pickup.

Fender did not start making import basses until the 1985 sale of the company unless they were Squire branded.

For its value- just go to completed auctions at ebay and see what 83 jazz basses have brought in recently.

Good luck with your bass,
