Are there any guitar players that also play bass? I was thinking about buying one. Believe it or not I spent 20 some odd years playing guitar, but never bought a bass. Is there anything I need to know other than the obvious?

I am looking for a budget bass and amp, nothing big. $200 to $350 price range for the Bass, $100 to $200 for the amp. I have been looking at the Squier line up for the Bass (Vintage Modified Jazz), but not sure about the amp.

Submitted one in the Fender Lounge as well, but wanted to here from you people as well.

I play at both. For an amp I'm using a Fender Rumble 25.

I found a MIM Jazz Bass extremely cheap on Craigslist that needed some TLC. It looked like this when I got it:

After changing a few things and modding a few others it ended up looking like this:

Yea I agree with feathers. you can get a mexican fender for a really good price if you shop well and maybe don't mind some minor restoration. I have used an MIM since 2001 and have been super pleased with it. I wish I had a good picture but It's currently in pieces.

As far as the amp, Peavey makes some really good practice amps in that price range. I had one, don't remember which, until i sold it and bought a bigger Peavey.

That is one nice looking bass. I wish I has the talent to take parts and make them into something beautiful. My last parts project ended up in a box in my storage room for years before I sold them.

I like the look of the 70's Jazz Bass, do not want to pay the price for the Geddy Lee Sig. I am looking at this for a beginner's bass. It also has decent specs:

I have heard nothing but steller reviews from Harmony Cental and Musician's Friend.

That one looks really nice. Those are the knobs I put on my jazz. Can't speculate on how it would feel or sound cos I never played one. But if it has good specs and you like it, grab it. Also I did some looking, and the Peavey Max Series has some amps you should take a look it.

Thank you. I'll have to look into the Peavey Max.

I have a VM J Bass...I luv it. I added a BadAss II Bridge, and for cosmetics, knobs from my '87 Fender, which are the 'tophat' knobs. I also took the pickguard off. If you search around the Squier Bass section of the Forum, you can find some of the pix I've posted.

I have one, and am finding that I play it more than my other two. It's a great bass.
