Agreed. Thomastik-Infeld flats are my string of choice for most things on my Jazz. I also like DR for rounds (Black Beauties, Hi-Beams or Marcus Miller Fatbeams).

DRs are great strings too. DR Sunbeams go great with Jazz basses IMO.

I like D'Addario myself. I put them on both my Fender Jazz's and my other basses. They have a nice sound, but seem to go too mellow to fast for some people. And they're great if you like distortion or overdrive. I usually change strings every 3 months or so with 1 to 3 hours of playtime semi daily.

I use Fender 7350M, .45 - .105 on the 4strings, I like the sound of Stainless Steel :) DR Black Beauties on the 5er. The Black Beauties last a long time, longer than the coating itself. Most DR strings last long tho - in my experience.

The key is try as much as you can, it takes awhile to find the one you like. Good luck and have fun!!

I love the DR Black Beauties! They are my favorite. They look great on my fret less.

Yeah, I only use it on my 5 string tho cuz the coating don't last long, and I play mostly with the 4 strings. The BB do last forever, just the coating don't last. Sounds great a long time.

I tend to change my strings a lot and for the price, Hartke strings are decent. You can get 3 sets for a little bit more than the cost of 1 regular set.

Another Elixir user here 45-105 on an Aerodyne J, mostly used for classic rock and some metal nowadays.

I aways preferred Warwick red labels over black label which are supossed to be better quality... as other have already told you, try many brands and gauges until you find something you like.

Yes, try all the other brands and all that jazz. Be seen to be doing the right thing!

Then - on pain of death - choose and use for the rest of your life Rotosound Stainless Steel Roundwounds and never look back. Resist the urge to experiment.

They are the best!

I've tried them all. I use, prefer and recommend  GHS Super Steels Long Scale Medium Gauge (.106, .084, .063, .044) Roundwounds on my 71 Jazz Bass. They are warm yet really bright and they last a long time. Everyone's complaint with GHS is that they don't last; Boomers sound good for 2 days, these sound good for 2 months. Straight out of the pack they have glorious fundimentals but with overtones like a Rhodes Piano, it's really quite amazing. It's even more profound in a Active Bass. 8)

Today I swapped out the TI flats on my 62 Jazz reissue for an old set of LaBella 760FLs I had tucked away and I'm really enjoying the higher tension and bass response of the LaBellas. Nice change, really sounds like an entirely different bass!
