I just got news that Ed McMahon died. I loved Ed. I've been taking up for him for years.

What is freaking next? Is Tippy's Tacos gonna go belly-up? Jee! Love you Ed! He was a heck of a man and more than that...he was a lot of fun!

I might as well write a novel because everyone I know seems to be dead What an unfair and cruel world! If a grade-A guy like Ed can not get a break, THEN we are all doomed. Love ya Ed. God Bless ya'! I'll never forget the Pizza Hut commercials you did. Classic. Sad to think this....but what I remember is "They ladle it on, not brush it on!" All in all Ed was a good thing.

Sorry about your loss BrotherDave...

Take it easy man. Don't worry about losing your cool, it's only natural.

There were two versions of these. The Jazz Bass Special which came passive like yours, and the POWER Jazz Bass Special which was a 9 volt active. "Duff" McKagan during his Guns 'N Roses years played a black one of this model. They sold lots of them because of that even though they were not officially an "artist series" model.

These came stock with 3 pots arranged in the Volume/Volume/Tone Jazz fashion but also had a mini-toggle as a pickup selector so you could solo either pickup without loading it down with the other pickup or have them both online. Yours is modified with a pot added to the toggle position.

Jazz Neck with black headstock, P-bass body, a darkened but not quite black "oiled chrome" hardware treatment, stock Japanese pickups, hardware and electronics. These were pretty light basses that almost instantly became great upgrade platforms and finding one completely original is very difficult. With upgraded electronics and hardware they make decent and very durable gigging basses. There are still lots of them around and people who have them really like the lighter weight and the neck.

I am sorry about your loss, sir. It is always horrible(I can say lots of things instead of just "horrible", but you got the point) to lose a loved one.

Thank you very much for the info and your time, and thanks for reminding me that I started off with the wrong foot. =) (and I know, the colour of the bass is a bit "interesting", or like one of my friends said, a little bit "glam")

Be strong for us and for yourself, I wanna dedicate the song that I am listening at the moment to your friend.

Temple Of The Dog - Say Hello 2 Heaven

BrotherDave, I have a Power Jazz Bass Special, with the 9v...the pots were master volume, pan, tone, then redundant pickup selector - up p, mid p/j, down j. There is a slap switch too, which didn't do much with sound changed unless you're in the j mode off the pu selector. As you know this is the bass with the EMG's now, set up like a j bass, with the vol/vol/tone, redundant pickup selector, disconnected slap switch.

...and sorry for your loss of Big Ed...

Yep PJB you are correct about the active version having a different setup. My bad. Forgot that. I never actually touched an active one the best I can remember.
