I currently am working on a custom jazz bass project and have a mexican body and neck and want to know whether I can fit U.S pickups and scratchplate to it? Many thanks

If there are holes driller for the mexican body then the scratch plate holes may not marry up if its a US one. There are plenty of scratch plates out there that'll fit a standard mexican though, I wouldn't worry bout that.

With the PUs, again, not much to worry about at all, everything in that respect should be standard. (It is worth nothing that the bridge pickup is slightly longer than the neck pickup, check the cavity dimensions to be totally sure).

thanks for the help. Any more input would be appreciated too though such as whether flatwound strings or roundwound would be better for slap/pop or funk sounds on this bass. I've not been playing long but would like to be able to start trying different techniques.
thanks

roundwounds deffo for slap

Flats give you a lovely round thumpy sound - they were used a lot on RnB and soul recordings back in the 60s and such. Very nice but not for slap or anything with a modern edge.

Also wondering if anyone on here can tell me where I can find a tortoiseshell pickguard that fits a standard mexican jazz bass as I'm having trouble finding one, and also whether it will fit with the set of U.S jazz pickups I am purchasing?

Whereabouts in the world are you located? www.wdmusic.co.uk are good if you are in the UK. And about the pickups, jazz pickups are a standard size, one size fits all so you will be fine.
