Any views on the Victor Bailey 4 string Jazz Bazz. Recently bought a Deluxe Jazz 5 string :D and its awesome. On the search for a 4 string bass and really like the look of the Bailey, no stores near me to try one so will have to be a mail order purchase. Any views good or bad please.

I've never played one, but this video does a good job explaining all the facets of the bass.

Basically, it has body woods (koa, rosewook, and maple I think) that give a lot of natural resonance and hightened midrange, so that it has a very unique acoustic sound. The preamp is a custom made (by Seymor duncan I think..) and it is a very VERY tight preamp, in other words the eq does not do as much to alter the sound as most preamps.

Feel wise, I can't help you. I've never played one myself.

The Fender VB bass I think is one of the best jazz basses Fender makes, not counting the custom shop stuff.

I had a fretless 4-string and it was a wonderful bass! Super fast neck and great punchy tone.

But be careful if looks is a factor to you. The Koa tops can vary greatly, from nicely figured to very plain. Mine, which I ordered from MusiciansFriend had a very plain looking top. I would have liked something more figured, but since the bass sounded so good I decided to keep it.

So if you are ordering it online, some places can be helpful if you talk to someone. Sweetwater.com took a photo for me of a Jazz 24 I wanted to see if I liked the top. Since the VB is not a cheap bass, other online dealers maybe as helpful as Sweetwater was to me.
