Hi contrabassist; Cool vid on the Am. Std.

My pleasure. Every time I see/hear it, I end up craving the P-bass V again & again. $ short...:x

The guy on the video is now the Editor and Chief of BP. I have always enjoyed his thorough written reviews, it is nice to see/hear it. The written review of the new are basses is excellent...they really dug them, hence the award (unanimous decision amongst the editors).

Not meaning to be a parrot, but if you have the money, go for the Am. Std. I am happy as I could possibly be with mine. Not that there's anything wrong with the others at all, but I can't help but feel this is the best bass I could possibly have gotten.

Again, I greed with Bathead. I had to repair a Fender Standard Mexican Jazz Bass. Once you start working with the components, you will quickly realize a difference in the quality of the parts.

Here is an update on my MIM Jazz for those contemplating buying one. I bought it new in November 09. I have been playing it about every day since then. The more I play it, the more I am sure that this bass was a great decision. I still try out basses at the music store every time I go in there but my MIM Jazz is still the best jazz I have played yet. My wife got me a set of Classic 60's Jazz pickups for Christmas (she rocks!). I waited until a few weeks ago to put them in. It was not difficult but the directions were very poor. However, I had them in after about an hour. With the new pickups, this thing is unreal. I get a nice growl and far more punch. The pickups came with good shields (but no instructions on how to put them in). The difference is obvious. The stock pickups were fine but these have such a different (better) sound. As for the rest of the guitar, I have had no problems at all. I usually play for two or three hours at a time and the bass stays in tune even with the cheap stock bridge. My only other future improvement is going to be a new Bad A__ bridge for better sustain. Total investment for bridge, pickups, and new bass will be less than $820. You can buy a Geddy Lee jazz bass for a grand so compared to that, it might not be the better choice but for me, I am extremely pleased with this bass.
