Hi,
I recently bought a second hand MMIV. Everything is going well except that I'm experiencing distorted sound when I use the following setting:

-Active circuit on
-Tone set at 50% on both pots (or above)
-Neck pu at 100% and bridge pu at 0% volume

When play I get a distortion as soon as I do it a little bit harder.
If I use the passive set up or the oposite pu volume then everything is fine.

I discarded the battery, amp and cable. I really don't know if this is normal or I have something wrong on the electronics.

I have two small wav with examples of the sound at these links:
http://www.boismenu.com/imgother/distortion.wav
http://www.boismenu.com/imgother/distortion2.wav

I would appreciate your advice as I don't know what to do.
Thanks!!
Pierre

Try plugging your bass into the active input of your amp (or the -15db) setting on your amp. When you are using the preamp it could be overdriving the input.

Thanks for the answer. And yes, I started to suspect I'm driving a signal that's too hot and overdriving the input. I will do more research with the active input, and trying other amps.
