Hi Everyone. This is my first post here. :D

I really haven't been in the market for a new bass in a few years, so I don't really keep an eye on prices. I've been thinking about buying a new Geddy Lee Jazz, but the street price seems to have doubled from what it was 5 or 6 years ago.

Does anyone know what's changed?

I have a 2002 GL Jazz, which was $800 then at Guitar Center. Now I see they go for @ $1200. I played a 2008 model a few weeks ago and I couldn't tell any difference!. Maybe the bass is sooo damn awesome that Fender can sell them for whatever they want. I guard my GL Jazz with authority!!

Fender raised their prices by about 30% on everything (not just this bass) back in February.

So, just a huge price increase, nothing has changed as far as the actual bass?

If that's the case, I'm a bit disappointed in Fender. I don't see raising prices by 30% during a recession as a way to boost sales, it looks like a surefire way to upset customers. I'm sure they aren't the only one to do this, though. Oh, well.

It's been a sore subject. Lot's of threads on it. Bottom line is, if you want a new Fender you'll have to pay more, but there are still plenty of deals to be found on the secondary market like ebay and Craig's list, etc.

I've bought 2 of them before the price increase. They are great sounding. The only down fall is that the pick-ups hum some, unless if I turn them up all the way, then there is no humming. Go Figure.
