:?: I'm looking to buy a Fender Jazz bass. I had two American Jazzes in my sights, but both got sold. I ran across this "crafted in Japan", which is stock, with the exception of the PUPS, which were upgraded to Duncan Antiquities. The original white pickguard was replaced with the tortoise shell one. It looks to be in excellent condition and has been owned by a professional upright bass player, and hasn't had much use.

The serial number starts with R09, which seems to indicate that it is a 2005 crafted in Japan.

Is anybody familiar with this particular model? Is it high quality? A worthwhile buy? At what price? Any info that anyone has on it would be really helpful. I can email a couple of pictures to you if it will help with the identification. Thanks.

Can't say for sure with no pics and no price, but I own 2 CIJ Jazz basses. They are both really well made and I have no intention of ever parting with them.

I would not hesitate to buy another CIJ. By the way, the pickguard upgrade is one I would do anyhow.

I just found out that the CIJ bass was actually purchased in Japan back in 2007. It does have straplock on the back of the head stock and it was a mid-price bass.....not their cheapos and not the most expensive.

That bass is probably a 62' Reissue. Those have the strap button on the back of the headstock. That is what I have and I love them.

Buy - buy - buy :D

I own two Japanese Fender Precision basses, one Japanese Squire Jazzbass and two Japenese made Fender Stratocasters. I have no hesitation in recommending any Japan made Fender instrument. They do an excellent job on these instruments and the pickups can be upgraded if you want or you can use the originals as I tend to do.

I find that they are fine if you supplement the foam rubber under the bass pickups so that you can raise them up and increase the output of the basses. The Strats kick butt just as they are.
