Does anyone know any details about Fender using mahogany for their Jazz Bass bodies? Seems kind of rare. Purchased in 1988 it's Sunburst w/ a bound rosewood, block inlay neck (#292795). I can't seem to get any info about the history of this wood. Seems to have been made around 1970. Is it a prototype? This bass easliy weighs as much as a cinder block!!
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

In the early 70's Fender started offering mahogany bodies as an option. They are rare but do exist. They are a tad heavier than the more common alder bodies, but not much heavier.
