Hey Guys just wonder if it would be advisable to defret an old fretted bass?

would the sound compare to and original fretless bass?

thanks for all you help.

I don't advise defretting any Fender bass, only because there are enough after market fretless necks around to use that do the job and allow you to convert the bass back to original spec.

The defretting a neck can easily ruin it if you don't know what you are doing.

The sound will be comparable to a fretless Squire Jazz bass and depending on how well you play, the bass will sound as good as you can make it sound.

I think you will be much happier leaving your fretted bass alone.

You can buy a new Squire fretless Jazz for less than many aftermarket necks. Used, they sell for even less.

Fretless bass isn't for everybody. It sure is easier to go back to fretted when you still have your original neck.
