I'm looking at purchasing a 96-97 American Deluxe Jazz bass from a fellow musician. He tells me it's a deluxe but I can't seem to see where it says it's deluxe on the bass. Is there an exterior tell-tale sign that will let me know if it's deluxe or not? Like an extra knob or something?

Thanks

Looks like a deluxe to me. they're active and have an on board 3 band eq + master volume hence the 4 knobs on the control plate.

I'm surprised it doesn't say 'deluxe' anywhere but that's fender for you haha. Just look up the serial number on this site (under support or resources I think) to confirm :)

It looks like the Deluxe. I have the 4-String deluxe in ash, and mine has the 4 control knobs as well as the "jazz bass" in the same style font and lettering as this one does. I've only seen that on the Deluxe
