The active Deluxe is going to be the best bang for the buck in your price range.

Bando, I also think that the deluxe jazz bass is best.

And D.Gel@, the mexican fenders are very good.

[quote="Bando"]im considering to get a Fender jazz bass but i dont know what kind

I had got an upgraded highway one to replace my precious '76 jazz bass and I can say that is a very good axe, good sustain and tones good for all kind of music that U want to play and very important a weight that don' t broke the shoulder after three hours of gig. The only minus is the laquer, too thin.

this just goes to show that fender pleases people from every place in the world. oh and yes, i think that they are very good basses. alot of people that i talk to that have on like them alot and say that they play alot. oh, dont worry, your english isnt bad. its better then mine probably because im goin insane and i am incompetent.

If $600 is your price range, and you know how to look over a used bass. Try buying used since for around $600 you can get a used American J or P bass. Ebay is the obvious first place to look, but then you can inspect before you buy.

If you want to buy NEW for $600 I like the Korean made 24fret Jazz deluxe-they were going for $599-699, but Fender just raised prices so they may now be going for higher. The ones I've seen at the stores in my opinion seem to be built better than a standard Mexican made J or P bass. PLus being an active J bass a lot of tonal options.

Good luck in your search.

I baught a Highway 1 J-Bass for 610 brand new. I know that everyone has it as 800, but you can drive the guy at the store down. It's a great bass, I highly recomend it.

In case you are wondering what the Deluxe Active Jazz (which is Mexican) sounds like...here is something I just put on YouTube. Not my best playing....but you will get the idea.
