So I've come across a Fender Jazz delux, made in America in 2001.

I know that I should play it before I buy it (and I will do that if I am able to), but I'd just like to know what is a round about figure I should be paying for this (second hand of course) and it's in pretty good condition. Was fender making good bass's in '01?

Just looking for a rough estimate ;-)

Cheers!

You're probably looking at $800 as a floor price, depending on the condition, but that would be pretty low. There have been some subtle changes to the model over the last 10 yrs or so, so make sure it's the one that you want and not just a bass of the same name. Personally, I prefer the heavier machine heads that were on the older models, and the contour neck heel isn't something that I ever saw the point of (to me it doesn't make it any easier to get to the 21st-22nd frets). Anyway you cut it, these are great basses and if you can find one for less than $1000, in nice shape, I'd grab it. A new one will probably set you back about $1300, but you could probably find one for a little less if you shop around.

Not a problem... I've been contemplating getting one for myself, so I've been doing some research of my own. I also used to be a Fender dealer, so I had to keep up on all the changes to all the different models for a while. Hope you find one that suits you. ...Cheers!
