This bass is great and I recommend it to anyone who likes a fat, vintage Jazz bass tone. However, I have heard many people complain about the thick 70's-style neck. To me, the neck does feel thick but it is not uncomfortable. This is a great bass! THANKS FENDER!!! :D

After some problems with the bridge pickup / volume control (now fixed) i have to say I love my new Fender 70's Classic MIM Jazz!

I have never played a Jazz before so i can't comment on the thickness of the neck relative to other Jazz models. What i can say is that the neck feels comparable to my recently sold 2007 4003 Rickenbacker, which is one of the slimmest and quickest necks out there.

The neck is definately thinner than on my Yamaha RBX 374.

From an aesthetic point of view the bass is just beautiful. Black body / white pickguard and LOVELY block inlays on a rosewood neck. Really, really nice product!

I'm not sure the neck itself is actually thicker, it may just feel that way due to the binding around the edges.

Personally I've found these to be really nice Jazz basses. I played one at my local GC and kept coming back to it, the tone was so nice. If only I hadn't promised my wife not to buy anymore basses this year!

I started out on a '68 Jazz and I can tell you that the New MIM '70s Jazz is the closest neck to and original 70's jazz that I have ever played.

They are real nice for the price and yes the original 70's Jazz necks were thin across the nut and thick front to back with the large binding.

The previous Japanese versions of the Jazz bass always had the binding too thin and the necks too thin front to back.

I played on a '78 Jazz the other day, and I thought the sound was amazing (the best i've heard on a Jazz) and the neck was comfortable.

The only thing i didn't like was the two pickup covers and the thumbrest. They just seemed to get in the way, especially the bridge cover because I couldn't play near the bridge but in the smallest gap in between the two covers.

I also had the tone turned all the way up, and I loved it. On my Jazz I never play with it because it just sounds too tinny for my liking.

The two pickup covers and the thumbrest can be easily removed, so it sounds to me like you have your dream jazz bass!
