Hey fellas! Can u answer this ques. for me. I recently bought a Mexican Fender Jazz and i'm definitely gonna change the stock pickups prob. for the samarium cobalt noiseless becuz i'm lookin for a fuller and warmer tone. What i want to know is are these pickups gonna be too powerful or too bright for the MIM jazz bass and do i have to change the electronics to an active circuit to get the tone i want from the SCN pickups? Thanks for any help

I'd suggest the 60's Custom Shop pickups for the tone you're after:

hi Trinifender, :) .....no need to change the electronics to an active circuit for the samarium cobalt noiseless... if you want maximum output, throaty sound, with highs that are more percussive then the SCN is for you, but if you want a warmer tone + maximum output then I'd go for the 60's Custom Shop pickups.

and I also suggest the Fender Vintage "Noiseless" pickups, It's not loud, but
they’re all about warmth, sustain, and a clean, singing tone plus its "noiseless"!

(O.W. is the best)

This may not be relevant, but make sure your pickup cavities are not the same size. Some MIM J-Basses do have bridge pickups that are the same size as the neck pickup, which causes a major problem when you upgrade. Fortunately for me, I bought one of those "special run" MIM, so the bridge pickup cavity was larger and accomodated the Duncan Pickups I dropped in: Vintage on the neck pickup and Quarter Pounder on the bridge pickup.

Man I just did what Mastermold suggested and now I love my improved JBass sound. Go for 60 custom shop pickups ! And enjoy !
