So the saddles on my current standard keep falling down on me. This got me thinking about getting a new bridge. The only bridge I know about is the BA bridge II.

Does anything have any suggestions on bridges that would work just as good if not better as the BA II? I'm willing to pay the price for one but no more.

Thanks for the help, David

As far as I know the BA II is the best one around.

I have one on my MIM Jazz Bass.

BA II all the way. I put a II on my Jag and a III on my fretless Jazz and never looked back. 8)

Ok I'm gonna get the BA II after my trip to Disney in April.

Now my next question is- I'm looking at it and it comes in unslotted and slotted. Will it be easy to make my own slots/take it to a store for them to do it? Or should I just tough it out and pay the extra $30 or so.

I had a BAII on a MIM Jazz and it sounded good. Went to a MIM Deluxe and replaced the bridge for cosmetic purposes with a Gotoh201. WoW! What a difference. Lots of nice sustain and super easy install - and oh yeah - helf the cost new of a BAII. Get it in three finishes here; http://www.bestguitarparts.com/guitar-p ... Bridge.htm

I am very pleased with the difference after I installed the Badass II bridge on my Jazz Bass......... similar feeling when you just install brand new strings.... I love the sustain, punch and clarity. I don't know how a bridge can make such a huge difference but from my experience a good neck, good pickups, and a good bridge will greatly improve the tone.

drop in replacement (no drilling required)

Is that groved??? I would take the ungroved so I could bend notes better but the grooved has better sustain! I would get one of both and put one on identical basses

I like the Gotoh much better. If you like low action, the BA is not for you. You can not get the saddles as low with a BA as you can with the Gotoh or a stock bridge. I had that problem and the only fix was to shim the neck.

The Gotoh 201 has some advantages and disadvantages. A few advantages have been pointed out. Another plus is that while the 201 does have higher mass than the stock Fender bridge, it doesn't have a radically different footprint from the original, so unless you look up close it isn't as obvious that you've modified your instrument. Plus when used on some basses the BA bridge won't fit under the cover but the Gotoh 201 will. The disadvantage in the Gotoh 201 is a smaller degree of saddle travel, meaning the amount that you can move the saddles toward or away from the neck is restricted by recessed channels in which the saddle height set screws are seated. Depending on the setup, this could potentially cause an intonation issue. It did on one bass I had whe I tried to install a different set of strings. These recessed channels restrict the side to side movement of the saddles so they are a good innovation, but in this one case their limited travel restriction created an intonation issue for me. Nice bridge at a good price, I just wish those lateral movement restriction grooves extended for more like 90% of the baseplate instead of 75% or so.

I also should point out that the Gotoh 201's saddles are larger and the baseplate is thicker than on the original bridge so it will not set up as low as a factory bridge either.

One last thought. For some genres of music, more sustain is not always a desirable thing.

I'm usually in the P-bass forum but things there are slow so I thought I'd pop in here and annoy you Jazz folks!
