So the headstockis twisting but the fingerboard/neck is not, right?

I would check the strings that you are using. Are they new? Are the strings a high tension brand? If so you may want to go to a lower tension string.
FYI: Rotosound strings are a high tension string.

Second if the bass plays well then I really wouldn't worry about it.
It is obviously strong enough to handle the load of the strings. I would pay attention to any changes in the neck by sighting down the edges every week or so. Any drastic change I would again check tuning and check the strings. As strings age their tension increases, too.

Yes, technically the strings stretch and it takes a bit more torque to bring them up to pitch. I doubt that string age is causing the condition you are seeing. It may just be a quirk of that particular neck.

I have strings on some of my basses that are very old, years in fact, if they are on a bass that I do not play that frequently.
