Hi all, I am new to this so please bear with me, not sure how to post photgraphs yet either, so any help to identify my guitar from this description would be much appreciated.
I have recently bought a fantastic Jazz Bass and it sounds and plays superb, it dates from 1982 (E300680) MIA, it is cream with a white, one piece pickguard, a maple neck and fingerboard, dot inlays, white pickups and all looks original, but. to be honest, I havn't seen another like this one, it wasn't cheap either so I am just hoping I have not been ripped off. It appears totally genuine and it has the moulded Fender case with lots of tour stickers from around U.S. and Europe. (I am in the U.K.)

I'm not an expert but...I do remember that it seemed that I saw several Fender basses from that time period that had white pickups. The dating on the bass may be exactly right. I wish you had pics! Sounds interesting!

Its a 1983 Jazz Bass. I know. I own one and its is a great Jazz bass.
The body is shielded under the finish so its is a very quiet Jazz bass.
A lot of people have changed out the one piece pickguard but I like it. It makes for a very unique Jazz. The moulded case is correct for that period also. In 1983, Fender used white pickups and pickguards on both the Precision bass and the Jazz bass.

Have fun with it and post a picure if you can.

Let me try to post a pic of me playing an outdoor gig last spring.
Here is my 1972 Jazz bass. I had to host the picture from a public website like Photobucket and post the image code to this board in the body of a message.

Here it goes:

Yes that's a 1983 Jazz bass. If you take off the neck you will find a clear date stamp on the butt end of teh neck.
They are great Jazz basses even though many don't like the look of the one peice pickguard. In 1983 all Jazz basses and P-basses had white pickguards and pickups.
It was a different look for sure.
