Check out the Squier Vintage Modified Jazz. For $280, it's one of the best values out right now. The MIM Standard Jazz is more $, also nice. Both have only volume & tone knobs - real basic.

you could try the Marcus Miller 4 string. In the passive mode you have a volume for the front pickup and a volume for the back and thats it.

Thanx Guys. Srry I did not know this before, but I am looking for a really nice fender Passive jazz with two jazz single coil PUPs tha would make life all that much simplier with no battery dying on you, and everything. I just set my Eq to nutral, so i don't need an active bass.

The price will have a lot to do with choice 'retro' instruments.

First, as previously posted, the Award Winning (Editors Pick Award - Bass Player Magazine) Squier Vintage Reissue Basses will get you in the area you are describing.

Second, the Highway One Series has a satin thin nitrocellulose lacquer finish. This is similar to the finishes used in vintage instruments, minus the shine.

Third, American Vintage Reissues will get the vintage vibes, minus years of natural aging and curing.

Last but definitely not least, the Fender Custom Shop has specific reissues and some signature instruments. But they are moving up at the top of the price point.

All the above will get that natural, passive tone in varying degrees.

Your budget and taste will dictate your options.

The Fender Roscoe Beck IV is passive with many sonic variations (via the 3 position switch for each pick-up), while retaining a vintage vibe when the pick-ups are tapped (single coil sound - standard jazzbass tone). :)

I would go simple w/an American Standard, can't go wrong there.
If you want a little higher end then idk, a 62 RI maybe (unsure of value)
Or you could just drop 60s pups in a standard for a more vintage tone.
