hey all,

if you've seen my other thread, i have been having trouble with the volume of the pickups that are in my jazz bass currently. i am considering replacing the pickups with a set of the dimarzio model j's....

i was wondering what everybody thought of these pickups, and whether or not they've had a good experience?

i really like the bartolini's and the basslines pickups, but, was thinking that i would try to gauge the opinion on the dimarzio's as they are a bit less money.

down the road, i might try to add an audere preamp, but, i am a poor student, and can really only make one upgrade at a time (if any!)

thanks!

Just saw a pair of active EMGs that went on ebay for a tad over 50 bucks the other day. Those would solve your issues (they came with wiring harness). Look around for a deal on some EMG-X pickups. Hot output and they shouldnt break the bank too much.

I have a 1972 Jazz bass that I bought used with the Dimarzio J-bass pickups installed. These pickups are great and I highly recommend them to anyone seeking to change pickups on their Jazz Bass. I have played this bass for eight years and the pickups were installed in the 70's because this bass was formerly used in the Navy Band here in Washington D.C.

I don't normally change pickups and my other Jazz Bass has the original USA pickups installed but I will say that the Dimarzio pickups are very good and don't require a pre-amp. It is the one passive bass that holds up well against active basses IMHO.

The tone is very similiar to the stock pickups only more output.
The bridge pickup does a great Jaco tone! Do it - you won't be disapointed.

As far as the modern tone need, just try out as many eq pedals that fit your budget, and go with the one you like best.

aww man those would be perfect...

unfortunately, i have only been able to find them for about $162...

that is a little out of my price range. i think what i might do is get an audere preamp, and then save up for those pickups...

any thoughts?

any one have any experience with the bartolini 9su's? i can get those for about $110...

that i might be able to swing...
