I just bought a new American Standard Jazz Five String bass. It took me quite awhile to decide to purchase, because it seemed a little pricey. I finally bought the bass during an after Christmas sale, and I must tell you I couldn't be happier! This bass has amazing tone. My primary amplifier is a Markbass Jeff Berlin model combo. The amplifer itself is outstanding, but the combination of this bass and the MarkBass amplifier is truly inspiring, and you'd be hard pressed to produce a bad sound from it. I've been playing bass for thirty years, and I've owned many instruments. For the last twenty years I've been a devoted believer in active pickups, but this new Fender, passive though it is, has won me over. It may be my favorite bass I've ever owned. It's simple, beautiful, comfortable, incredibly playable, and it has an amazing ability to be both fat and articulate at the same time. Fender definitely hit a home run on this one.

I also bought the Olympic White with the rosewood fretboard. ...very classy looking bass. I tend to play a lot of different styles of music, and this bass seems right at home with all of them.

I bought one a couple of weeks ago and love it. It's the best sounding bass in my stable. I haven't used another bass since I've owned it. I got the black/maple combination and am putting a red tort guard on it. It's truly a thing of beauty.

American Standard Jazz bass + Markbass amp = godly.

I love just about everything about the american standard basses. The neck finish is better than any other fender I've played, the hardware and pickups are great, and the neck.... the neck is fantastic. I honestly have never been able to get such a low action on any other bass. And the neck is SO stable.

Also, Fender finally got the B string right on this bass. The feel is just right. It's tight, its got good clarity, and is definitely better than other fender 5 strings I've played.
