Hey Guys

I want to make some Mods on my J Bass. I want to make it an active conficuration. Here are my questions...

1. All of the circuits i can find take up the entire plate. Where does the jack go?
2. If the jack goes on the side of the bass would i have to route out a hole and get a separate jack plate? like one on a tele?

Thanks
Gordon

You might need to route out a hole and get a separate jack plate, Just like the Deluxe Active Jazz bass, or check out this preamp (no separate jack plate needed) :)

I modified mine from a passive to active

Just Curious:

For those who are doing or have done the modification - are you using the Power Jazz Bass style jack with the extra set of contacts that turns things on automatically when the cord end is plugged in ?

I can't reply for the person who did the pictured mod, but a switched jack is fairly standard when going active on any bass.
You don't want the circuit to drain the battery when the bass is being stored.

That's also why you should always unplug your cord from an active bass when it is not in use.

The reason that I asked is because I have sseen a couple variations of this mod where an extra mini-toggle switch is installed out of the way on the plate as a master on-off switch rather than having the cord plug do the switching through the active jack. Guess there's a couple different ways to get to the same place for power. Thanks.

Hello

I ordered a preamp to replace when i get my bass. it doesnt come with an active/passive switch.

How would i get one in? or am i doomed to replacing the battery every time so fast.

thanks
Gordon
