I have the new '08-'09 MIM Fender Standard Jazz Bass (Upgrade), which I love. One item of interest is that the catalog copy reads:
Quote:
Upgraded for 2009, our Standard Jazz Bass incorporates ... modern single-coil pickups, shielded body cavities ...
My questions are:
  1. What kind of shielding is used? I don't see copper foil in the body cavities, so is it in the form of nonconductive paint?
  2. What's "modern" about the pickups? To me, they are unusually quiet for Jazz pickups, but the bridge pickup to my ears lacks a bit of that snarl/growl that Jazzes are known for
Any insight would be appreciated!

i would love to help u out but i have an 07 MIM. thought if it is any help this one doesnt have any copper foil in the cavity, so i guess it must be non conductive paint. im not sure though.

Hmmm. I wonder if applying copper tape on top of a layer of nonconductive paint would provide super-protection against interference, or whether it's wasteful overkill. Probably a little of both, considering that the instrument overall is very quiet to begin with.

I hope somebody knows the answer on this. To restate the question: How are the new bodies "shielded," and in what way are the pickups "new"?

Also, does anybody know where I might find the relevant Fender press release that might answer these questions?
