In the last issue of Bass Player i read was a pic of somone playing a 6 string fretless jazz! I'm sure it was custom built and one of a kind, but I'd love to have one myself.
I've played a 4 string jazz for years. When i decided to get a 6 string, i settled for a Schector Stilleto. Now don't get me wrong, I love that bass. PLays like a dream and has a good sound. But it just sounds fake next to a Jazz.
I'd love to have a ^ string jazz. it seems Fender would be in front of this design and cash in on it. Can anyone tell me why they aren't?

Also for anyone reading, "Bass Player" recently featured three starter 6 string basses so I went and checked them out. Their review was accurate and I ended up getting the Ibanez. Unfortunately, none were fretless.

I have short, stubby fingers and I find that somewhat limits me on the wider, thicker neck of my 5 string J-bass. It has that great Fender sound and construction but based on that, I suspect I'd have difficulties with a 6 string. So for anyone looking for a decent six and with my problem of short fingers, check out the Ibanez entry level. The neck is very thin and relatively narrow.

All that being said, and this being the Fender forum, I'll never give up my fretted and fretless P-basses (NEVER, EVER) and I also recently picked up a cool MIJ Jazz Bass "Special" (fretless).

Don't feel to bad, I play a Schector Stilleto 6 string bass and love it. Very fast and thin neck for its size and great EMG pickups. But I'll throw it in Green River for a 6 string Jazz.
