The string-set should be just about 1/2 inch above the body between the last fret and the mid pickup. If your observation of 1+ inch clearance is accurate, then carefully check the neck again for warpage or bowing, because I have never found a Fender® Jazz bass that has the string to body clearance range that you mentioned with a FACTORY bridge. With those clearances, it would take heavy finger pressure to play the thing as it is.

Keep us posted, but that sounds like it might be labor/parts intensive to get set correctly. Good luck.

Be careful that any Jazz bass you buy that comes with a BadAss bridge has the BadAss II model or the new one with ridged bridge saddles . The original Badass required the bridge to be inset into a Fender bass body for the action to be set correctly. I know. I have a 1972 Jazz with an Original Bad $@! bridge. I love the bass the way it is but it would have had the high action described if the bridge were not inset or inlayed into the body.- That is body wood had to be cut out to make the bridge low enough to get good action. This means that I can't convert the bass back to stock specs.

Just have it checked out by a friend who plays bass or better yet a repairman. There are so many parts basses on the market, you don't want to get ripped off by over paying for someone else's mistake.
