Fender Road Worn Basses? Has anyone tried or own one of these? Is the pups and everything else vintage or is it just a look?

Just the look. They're MIM and pretty nice basses from what I've heard, sort of a poor man's CS relic bass, but I've not seen or played one personally.

thanks for your responce. I would want one that looked new. I would love to have a real vintage bass but even then I would likem it to look less worn. To each his own I guess

If you want the same bass but new, try Musiciansfriend.com and check out the classic 50's P-bass or classic 60's jazz. They're the exact same MIM bass as the Road Worn basses but new (no relic job) and Musician's Friend is selling them for $699 so you'll save a good $500 too.

I am not a fan of buying a new bass with that vintaged/reliced look either. I wanna create that mojo on my own.

It's a funny thing this whole relic business. I'm with you, I like keeping my basses looking nice as long as I can. What's interesting to me is how the relic thing became popular with Fender but with Rickenbacker it's the exact opposite -- instead of guys wanting their new Rics looking old they want their old Rics looking new again.
