Hi all this is my first post here although i have lurked for a while getting a feel for the place first. Someof you may know me from basschat and occasionally talkbass.

I have used fender jazz basses for something like 16-17 years, my whole playing lifetime.

At present i play in a funk band: http://www.myspace.com/uselesswoodentoysband
and a pop rock band: http://www.myspace.com/loungeflymusic

Ive currently play three fender jazzes and an oddball!:
here are my basses,
my number one was once a 1990 MIJ 62 reissue but now the only original part is the body having been through a phase of having emg pickups, an east preamp and status neck ive returned it to a more stock state, albeit with a replacement neck, ive taken the sticker off now too!:

this is number two, a CIJ JB75-100US in vintage white which had an audere and barts for a week before also being returned to stock!

here is my geddy, slightly modded but only cosmetic, apart from the detuner which all my basses have

and finally this fella, i bought from the STRATosphere on ebay as an '86 fender jazz special, however having owned one of these before, a fretless with a pearl white body and three way switch this is not the same. The same place is now selling another the same as a P basss special.
DOES ANYONE HAVE A CLUE WHAT IT IS?? i only bought the body and fitted my status neck which fits like a glove, it sounds and plays AMAZING!
And im prety sure is genuine Fender but as i have no neck, no serial number!
heres mine:

this ebay link might help some:

any got a clue!?!?!

Its fab either way!

Here my myspazz if you wanna know more about me: http://www.myspace.com/gafbass02
cheers all,
i look forwards to being part of the community here

Thanks for the reply mate, much appreciated. Sadly the power jazz I think had sculpted horns, three way switch and active electronics so it rules that one out.
Any pics of your Olympic p bass? I've never heard of them and I'd be interested to see it.
Cheers dude

i could even remember that i saw one 80's japanese dedition in a store near my town.
except for the enlightened dots.
Is the bass that was used from duff of Guns N Roses a long time ago,if i don't remember wrong.
anyway,nice collection!

gafbass,

Hey I loved your basses. Listened to your band also. Pretty cool stuff. Also I spotted the picture of your singer dressed as Alec from Clockwork Orange - nice touch.

I have no idea what that last bass is. I've been playing MIJ and MIA 62 reissues for about 17 years myself. Love them. Here is a link to a posting of myself and my daughters assembling my latest JB 62 reissue.

thanks guys, glad you like my stuff. It's closest to a jazz special ( apart from the status graphite neck) but i've never seen one without a switch before.

I think you are pretty close in saying that it sia Jazz Special of probable Japanese origin. It could be a parts bass, where someone took an aftermarket body and used the J-bass Special pickups and Bridge but left off the switch for a cleaner look. Have you checked the control cavity for signs of a plugged hole and/or refinishing?
