Is it okay that my E string makes a vibrating sound when i play it open, I've always tuned it before I played and it still vibrates against the frets. Any ideas? :?:

Adjust the bridge. The G string on my bass vibrated against the 1st fret (producing a loud buzzing noise when played open). I adjusted it about 1mm higher and it stopped. The action did not get that high also.

my first bass did that, it rattled on the D and G strings. Later I realized it was missing the string tree. after 5 basses later, I got one the other day and put it on, and it works perfect!
proud of myself cause it was the second bass I fixed, and I only been playing a bass for a little over a year (self taught). anything else, I take it to my boyfriend. He is also a bassist and a guitar player and does all my intonations, and adjustments.
sorry for rambling...lol, it's late! hope you get yours worked out! :D

Hello all, I have a Mexican Made Jazz Bass with all original parts except I changed the strings a good while back and since then the "A" string pops out of place from the nut. Never happened before and just seeing if anyone had any input to that. I kinda fixed it by applying a thin piece of duct-tape to keep the strings down in place.

The nut is worn and/or broken under the string. That's what was happening (worn + broken) in my MIM Jazz.
