It sure is a beauty! But personally I wouldn't pay anywhere near that much. Not that it may not be worth it, but after waiting 4 years I'd expect the price to be much lower.

Congrats on your new bass.

Hmmm.. and I thought that with each year, Fender guitars (US made) get more and more expensive.

Depends on which model. I'm just speaking from personal experience of almost 30 years of buying guitars/basses. For that much, I can get a vintage Pre-Baldwin Gretsch Country Gentleman, which grows in value much faster than a new-ish Fender bass. Or a vintage Rickenbacker bass or vintage Höfner 500/1 bass. Granted the Höfner is hand made in Germany, but you should get the gist.

In fact, there's a vintage Pre-CBS '62 Strat in my stable, in ex condition, and it only cost around $200 when I bought it 10 years ago.

JMO, YMMV

People talk about pre CBS and after CBS. I'm ignorant about that, what does CBS mean? Thanks!

The corporate giant company CBS bought Fender from Leo in 1965. After that, the QC took a nose dive most people feel.

It denotes whether the guitar was made by Leo Fender's Fender Musical Instruments, or after he sold FMI to CBS, and ceased personal input on QC etc.

It's a Beautiful Bass. Don't worry about the price. If it works for you, feels great, sounds great, you enjoy it. That's all that matters.

thanks guys.. well after a week of playing and getting to know the bass a little better .. i can now say that $1200 was cheap (for me).. this beast goes way beyond what i expected :D ... my bass player hates fender (he plays a cheap traben) and he didnt want to admit that he loved my Jbass...

I wouldn't really pay that much for a bass like that. I would go and look into a vintage bass with that much. I play a '62 Jazz Bass American made, and I put about $1400 into that baby. Worth every penny of course. Only will live by '62's and nothing else. Thank you so much Fender for bringing the '62's back.
