I have this franken-bass that plays better than 95 % of the bsses i play. Its been handed down from friend to friend. I dont know much fo the history or hoe to identify years. i figure its something of taking it apart and looking for numbers. which i will do the next time it needs a set up. THe thing i find interesting is the the brass strip that runs from underneath the bridge to the bridge pick up. Can anyone tell me about this or what are the possible years that this may have been done on these jazz basses?

Jazz basses from the early 60's were grounded that way. If you look at a '62 reissue, you'll see the ground strap.

Fender started routing the ground wire inside the body in the mid or late 60's.

So i am thinking that this could possibly be an original 61 body and electronics if nothing has been replaced. I am going by the tone/volume knob config.

Na, looks like a '62 reissue body. It is missing allot of screw holes! There would be holes for the bridge cover and the string mutes if it was an original '61/62
