I don't worship Geddy. In fact, I've never checked out Rush, although I heard a lot about them.

There are many great "technical" bass players. I would throw Stu Hamm into the mix. Although I have found that players like Stu Hamm write amazing instrumentals, when they themselves try to sing or create vocal melodies, its not pretty. Here is my argument for Geddy Lee's inspirational career....He is a great player who can do more then just be a virtuoso on his own instrument. He is a singer, a songwriter , a producer etc. Geddy Lee brought "the Bass" to the forefront of RUSH and wrote some pretty amazing songs that have appealed to the masses over the past 44 years. That's what inspires me and I would argue countless aspiring musicians around the world. How many players have written and continually produced as many gold and platinum albums as RUSH. Thank you to players like , Geddy Lee, Sting, and Paul McCartney for raising the bar!

Worship might be too strong of a term, but he's certainly deserving of the respect that he's due. Good player, sings & writes. Still plying his craft after all these years. Has a good band w/ other damn good players.

I guess it is for the same reason you worship Victor Wooten ?. However I do agree that "worship maybe to strong of a description when it's being applied to musicians no matter who they maybe and regardless what type of genre of music that they're apart of. IMHO.

Anybody here have an atrist signature model? Rush is a love or hate band, seems there are very few people in between. Geddy is an accomplished player who has a unique style all his own.

Are there better bass players, probably, but, how many have lasted as long and had the success.

I think a lot of new bass players try to play some of his licks and realize, damn this guy is fast and unconventional. Once they start to master a song they tend to stay with his stuff, thus the worship.

Anybody agree?

Very well put oxfan! Yes I have a Ged bass. However when I was testing out basses and picked that one, I didn't realize it was a Ged bass at the time.
I feel that Geddy is a very good bass player. As you said he has been around forever and still going strong. Kind of like the Energizer Bunny. He has definatley come up with some awesome bass lines.
One thing to note, its quite interesting to read interviews of some of rocks top bass players , both past and present, and hear how many reference him as one of their great influences. Thats saying something!

I have met Geddy years back and he was a really cool guy. Also he is a fellow Canadian. He has stood the test of time and he is a Jaco fan just like me and he uses the Jaco Custom Shop basses. So what's not too worship?
:P

I 'admire' any bass player who can sing & play at the same time. For me it just seems unnatural, but I press on.
