Those are smart words. You should have both...

My advice:

For learning purposes the Jbass is really smooth and friendly. So buy the Jbass first.
Once you learn to play you should have both.

I used a J Bass to learn on, and these days i use it to gig with and i use it more than my P Basses, I have the Jazz Bass, a standard P bass and a 51 Reissue and the 51 and Jazz are definately my favorite two to play with

Hello guys. I am new to the forum so i hope i can get a warm welcome from you all :)

I prefer the feel to a jazz bass, the neck is comfortable than a precision to me anyway.

They look better as well.

Hey welcome to the forum!

Glad to hear you're enjoying your Jazz! To echo what's been said, you'll probably end up owning a P-bass too someday but the bottom line (for me anyway) is you can't go wrong with a good Fender bass so enjoy!

Hey RealJazz, I hear ya..I still have a Jazz Bass Special that I bought new in the mid 80's. It's a P body, a J neck, a P pick up at the neck and a J pick up at the bridge. More importantly, it's light, sounds awesome through a tube 'fridge', and has been working flawlessly for me for over 20 years now. Hard to beat that!

Personally I've always been a fan of the Jazz Bass.

The Jazz Bass definately offers more options.

For example, I like to play many different genres of music, and no matter what kind of music style I'm playing to, a Jazz Bass always goes perfect with the music. "I'm not saying the P Bass isn't a good bass though".

So ya, I'd definately recommend getting a Jazz Bass.
