I think Jazz players might just be more open minded because it's a more versitile bass. Honestly I can't see why someone would use soley one or the other. Except gotta go fretless for a jazz. The sound is amazing.

It's actually cool to observe the personality differences associated with j-bass lovers and p-bass lovers from reading various forums, not just here in Fender. Of course I'm speaking generally...

I'm not dissing either one, because both basses are awesome and I love j-bass player's music as well as p-bass player's music! The bass world need both!

I think most people who voiced out their passion about a particular bass, is not necessarily saying that they will only play one bass, or only like one bass, but if they had to choose they will pick a p-bass or a j-bass.

I for one thank God that both basses exist. It just makes bass playing more interesting. :)

Oh I do too. We NEED the variety, I mean imagine just one bass sound for every song. It'd get old pretty fast.

I have a Highway One Jazz, and I love it. When I play it, it just feels like it’s a part of me, and the thin neck makes it so easy to play. But that’s just my opinion. Go to your local guitar shop and play both, and get whatever feels and sounds better to you.

Don't forget about the feel. I'm actualy right handed and prefer the Jazz lefty, the body feels a bit better, and it looks kinda cooler too lol but the neck on a jazz is just amazing.

I own several of each. Both are great basses and both give me tones the others don't so I had to have both. (Some guys say they can get P-bass tone from a Jazz but it's not really P-tone. It's good tone but not P-tone.) As for which is my personal favorite, I go back and forth.

J-Bass without a doubt!
when i had to choose for a bass guitar which could last for all of my life (as my dad told me) i tried out a lot of stuff.
and then, there was the J bass.
Has a killer sound if you play that with every style you want, from pick to finger style to a rabid session of slapping.
P bass also sound good...but J bass...is the bass!

Fortunately, its a choice that you can't get wrong! Myself, I've always liked the options of the Jazz. More tone control and sound difference. But there's nothing like the fat sound of a P bass.
I will say more legends are known for playing a Jazz than a Precision. Must be a reason.

My suggestion is to try them both at a local store. I used to work at a guitar shop, and taugh as many as 32 students at a time. I would always tell my students and customers that we don't pick our basses...they pick us. Good luck!

I like my jazz bass but i also really like the look and sound of a fretless precision, unlined and in sunburst with a black pg.

Hello guys. I am new to the forum so i hope i can get a warm welcome from you all :)

I prefer the feel to a jazz bass, the neck is comfortable than a precision to me anyway.

They look better as well.

Welcome to the forums Ash, I've said it many times but both basses are killer, and even though I love the p bass a bit more, you gotta have em both
