HI, I have a American Standard Jazz. Has anyone ever changed pups on their jazz and replaced them with another type of pup other than a Fender replacement set in attempt to achieve a different tone/sound. Thanks.

I have installed these pickups from Guitar Fetish. I love them. They will improve any Jazz bass.

I went with a set of Fender Custom Shop 60's, and they sound perfect to me. However, there's a bunch of aftermarket alternatives that sound great - I think Lollar makes a really good vintage sounding set.

What type of tone are you going for? Vintage, hi-fi? The more descriptive you can be, the better the advice you'll get. :)

I have a '97 Am Deluxe V. Active preamp. It seems a bit 'under-powered" or something to me. Anyone else encounter this, or is it just me?

I've got the vintage set ( the same that they put in the '62 reissue) in my '64 CS Jazz and they are wonderful little tone monsters too me. I thought about putting the '60 CS set in once but the ones I have now are really quite nice too my style and ears.
Tone is King, not name or price.
