I should have asked my question before spending $60 on strings (3 sets). I have been playing for just over 1 year and I have been using GHS strings wanting try different strings I notice that DR's had a round core and Bass player Magazine had them listed as the best. So I started looking for strings with a round core. Are the Super Bass Taperwounds any good?

I don't know if the Super Bass Taper Wound are any good. Its all a feel thing anyway. There are folks who love them and there are probably folks who hate them. However, I like you have used GHS for years ( probably to long ) and have had the last four sets go dead in a matter of weeks. I've tried many a string in my career, except for the DRs. I am hooked. The round cores really add to the flexibility of the string, sound great, and feel great. Of course thats just my opinion. Good Luck.

I received my strings (8250's) today they sound and play very nice. They are smoother that GHS Bass Boomers I had on less finger noise. I will have to get use to them going from 40-95 to 45-110, but the E sounds nice.

Note that changing strings/diameters will possible require you to set-up your bass.

Hey Ron,
Sounds good. I'm glad you found a set of strings you like. It can get expensive searching for the "right" set. What Zod posted about the set-up is a must. The other thing to keep in mind is that you may need to change the nut as well. Enjoy.

My Fender Jazz is in the shop getting set-up should be ready today, and I will take my Squire Jazz today when I pick my fender. I did adjust the truss rod and lowered the action on the Squire, but I will have a pro take a shot.

I have been playing since 1967 the only strings you want to use are SS flat wounds. All the rest add to the unwanted overtones.

Maybe in time I will change, but right now I really like the punch and tone they have.
