I'd pay $800. But not $1,200.

I got a chance to play a 50's strat, the tele, the p bass and a 60's jazz in the road worn gear over the last few days at two different music stores. Obviously everyone getting mad about the gear hasn't played one, and 1200 dollars is the list price, stores are always below that, the shop prices were between 879 and 1049.

But mainly the guitars all played awesome and sound great. Especially unplugged. Out of the 4 that I played the tele ruled but they were all good. Just because they are MIM doesnt mean they are crap it means there made cheaper by people who get paid less, so if you can get a really nice guitar with a laquer finish, tex-mex pickups and more for under a grand i thought it was a good deal.

Besides the wear is minimal on them, and unique, the thin laquer will let you characterize it way faster than anything that fender has produced for a while under 2500.

And way back in the from someone asked why dont they use block inlays on the jazz basses. Its because they werent on these basses, the 60's is modelled after an early 60's not the later, so it wouldnt make sense.

I finally saw the RW 50's Precision and 60's Jazz at my local GC and I've got to say they did the relic thing pretty well on these, they're all beat to hell! Some of the cracking on the finish looked as well done as Custom Shop relic jobs I've seen.

So I guess if this is your thing, you'll like these. I'm still in favor of buying my basses new and keeping them that way, but if you like the relic look you'll probably like these basses.

Some people really like the look, others don't. It's just a personal preference thing.

On one level ,I do agree with the feelings of most of you concerning the Road Worn Bass, the cost, fake wear, ect. But ,the bottom line is that if you can get past the cost,it's a great bass. Last week I bought one and I went out of my way to not even take it off the wall, but I'm glad I did.I know "Fender Snobs'' will differ, but the bottom line is,if it FEELS GOOD---PLAY IT!

All this being said. We are on Earth for only a short time. Find an instrument you bond with, and that may or may not be a Fender. It may or may not be a bass. When you are laid to rest for the final time, as I am soon to be, will it be known that you played your best? That you found your spirit's voice? That you mattered in the grand scheme of the vibrations of the Universe?.

It does not matter what you played your music on! Bass, Banjo, Ukulele, Balalaika, Djibouti or Jews Harp.

What counts is that you played your best on whatever instrument was in your hands at that one particular moment in time when the audience was focused on wherever you could take them in the Universe. That one moment when you left everyone within earshot with mouth agape at your artful expressions.of universality with man and God and rhythm and soul. That is what we ALL strive to achieve. A collective musical orgasm.

One word of warning. Only one. If you have found that moment, it is only downhill from there.

i dont care how my bass looks, i bought it because it sounds good, i chose the colour combination i liked the most/the cheapest. I dont make a special effort in keeping it showroom condition, i just play the $@!& out of it as you should. you shouldnt worry about bumping it a bit, all you should concentrate on when playing music, if the music and the energy.

I almost cry everytime the fretless gets a bump/dent... but thats just cause it takes away from the beautiful sunburst eyecandy...

Had to check one out my self... Demo'd the P Bss and was quite impressed. Great playability, tone, feel. Really could not put it down and it looked wicked cool. Not sure if I would buy one though. Seems like a novelty, gimmicky item. In that price range would rather buy the HWY One.

Dont knock it until you try it!!! I know it seems a little cliche, but this bass plays and sounds amazing! I guess the real selling point was the neck. This is my first jbass, so i am having a few issues. I believe I need to replace these p/ups because I am having some MAJOR hum! Anyone have suggestions on what to replace them with? Also, this thing needs a setup (bought from American Musical Supply) I have setup other basses in the past but not a jbass is there any difference? 8) Thanks.

The bottom line is that the Road Worn basses and guitars are very nice instruments. Fender wouldn't be making them if there was not a market for them.

I played at a Blues festival last Sept and the bassplayer who followed my band had a road worn Precision. I asked him what it was thinking that it was an original '57-59 Precision but he told me -" Its one of the new Road worn basses"

His bass sounded great!

I have a hard time paying 2 to 4 thousand for a Custom Shop or a Relic. Why not a Road Worn?
