Is it just me or, does anyone else like to keep their instruments looking good and, buying new means it is in great shape?

Why no block inlays on the road worn Jazz basses? For that kind of cash they should be there.

oxfan,

It's not just you. I take a lot of pride in keeping my instruments in showroom condition. Tell me that when our instruments are 40 years old and they look like you just bought them that people won't be drooling over them and outbidding each other on e-bay.

I wonder if that same thing will be happening to road warn?

not just all of the above but it looks similar to bog standard basses with a bit of wear for extra cash..... don't get me wrong, I love fender but they seem desperate these days :(

Same here. I'm also not sure how wise it is for Fender to be releasing a buch of extra-expensive MIM basses (in addition to raising all their prices across the board) in the middle of a recession.

I think making your bass look personal is great cause then it tells a story, like the mark when i dropped it cause i was on a bike, or got high and fell on it by accident, and then it tells a story that it's your bass, not just a standard bass you get in a shop.

Exactly. I know someone would see my bass and say, "Man, you must play that thing a lot."
"Well, you see it's a 2009, that I just bought for $1,200."

I'm not too interested in these either, probably sound good. I've always tried to take good care of my gear, some of it is well over 20 years old, some have dings from gigs, (They've been played out on for many years) but when I'm using my 87 MIJ P-Bass people are surprised its 22 years old, and my MIJ Tele is 20 years old. I want my wear to be natural, I have a 94 MIM Tele with some really cool burn marks on the first 14 frets from being played so much. I don't want fake!!!! I EARNED everyone of those wear marks

Mastermold,

Are you saying the "Roadworn" guitars and basses are mexicans? If that's the case, somebody is nuts. A $1200.00 mex, that would be funny if it wasn't ridiculous.

Yes, it true. And it only comes with a Deluxe gig bag.

That's bizzare. My faith in Fender has been shaken.

I love my MIM but, I only paid $430.00 for it, as much as I like it I wouldn't have paid more.

I'd rather take my CAD$500 MIM Jazz Bass that's already 10+ years old and trash it myself through years of playing, than pay 1200$ for a new "Road Worn".

Is every other guitar "worn" differently, or is it the same pattern on every one of them?

I was going to post a photo of my old Fender Jazz bass but I don't know how. Maybe someone with more posting experience could let me know how. I don't know what BBCode is either, only that you have an option to disable it when you post.

It is truly road worn. I purchased it in 1972. Printed on the back of the neck where it meets the body it says JAN 71. You have to take the neck off to see this. I suppose that's a pretty good indicator of the age. Oddly enough, it was rather beat up cosmetically when I bought it. It always played very well though.

The neck is straight and true, there has never been any fret buzz, it stays in tune in the case or out, and the electronics have never given me any problem.

There are several musicians in my area that come and borrow it for recording sessions or particularly notable gigs. It doesn't leave the house often, but a few good friends do have access to it.

Many years ago, probably around 1974, on one such road trip, it was even in a car crash and Paul Crass had to get me a new case and one new [old]tuning key. The case was destroyed in one corner and the tuning key was bent. It still held a tune. The neck, playability, and electronics came out unscathed.

That's only one story from my 38 years with this fabulous bass guitar. You don't even want to know what I paid for it back then, but it wasn't anywhere near the $1,200 figure mentioned in this forum, not even 20%.

Johnny
