I just picked up a 1972 Jazz bass that has its original black finish. It seems a bit fogged. Any recommendations on what to clean it with to restore a bit of luster. I know my vintage RIC responds well to a product called Scratch X that works great on the Jetglo "black" finish. However I was wondering what you folks with more experience would recommend for a vintage Fender. Thanks in advance. Great Forum!

You may want to check out Meguiars swirl remover to compound the finish if it is just fogged from player sweat and dirt.

I would be careful about doing too much to a vintage bass. If you remove the mojo you may be removing some of the value but its your bass- its your call.

Post some pictures if you have them.

The Fender Polishing Kit works great for the type of clean up you are wanting to do. It has a gentle polish / swirl remover that is great. Just follow the instructions.

Thanks for the advice. I'll give the Fender kit a try. I am just looking to clean it up a bit, nothing significant. By the way, I would love to post some pics but I am not sure how to do it. There does not appear to be any way to directly upload them. Am I missing something?
