I paid 542 Euros for my Jazz bass Made in Mexico , midnight wine, here in Rome, Italy.
The brown sunburst had a price tag 50 Euros heavier.
Here that's a good price (at least for my J-bass), even if common math says otherwise .
Can't complain: I heard Down Under MIM J-basses are much more expensive.
What do you think, guys?

You know, bass guys, we don't have Fender Factories in Italy, so we get to pay import taxes and VAT on our precious basses, so we have to spill blood to pay for our J-basses.
I'm green with envy (you hear, Royz?).
Anyway, the bass sounds real good, even though I had to pay my DR fat beams more than you guys do (cost me one eye) , and bought a nice american strap to go with it (there goes the other eye).
Tough luck, uh?

Quoque tu, Selena?
You wanna be robbed, come to any European country and pay for our j-bass with your life's blood.
Anyone else had a good deal??
I should move to California or Florida, next to a good Guitar Center, right?
I want to play a MIA standard jazz bass, without going to a loan shark.
America, so far away....

The pricing is a funny thing. I have an '77 Jazz Base similar to the one on my avatar. Got it for a Xmas present that year. The neck took a bit to get used to, but now the only bass I see similar to it is a Squire version.

Anybody know how to remove the Squire decal from the headstock without much damage?

Thanks.

Brand new. Unpacked from the box as I stood there. They had the MIM sunburst for $329, white and midnight wine for $295. All I've done is adjust the neck and it's great.

Moving to California may not be quite the answer either. I get my new Fenders from a store I've dealt with for 35 years in New York State. She has very low overhead, works on a low profit and sends me everything Fender included. Even shipping across the country, my final cost is less than buying the same Fender from a "big name" retailer.

Part of my savings too is that she charges me shipping but no sales tax. Given the LA county tax rate, UPS 5 day is less except on very heavy items. Example: I just got an AmStd Tele and shipping was $35 -- my CA sales tax would have been $77.96 though.

The guitar itself was $65 less than GC's "best" price and that's probably at least in part due to the high CA costs overall.

It can pay to find a small, local dealer and possibly one "elsewhere" if you live in a high tax area.

Sounds like a great store to deal with. There's a local shop here that I've been buying from for 20+ years, but your NYC dealer sounds even better. Care to share via PM???

Cheers,
Joe

In the US it would cost about $933 dollars, going from Euros to the American dollar. Sounds about less than a standard. Standard now is about $1100 US.

i bought my fender jazz (which is an american standard) back in 2003 and paid that like 1200 euros.
I do remember i had Fender's catalogue like two months after, and there was the price list in dollars...my blood started boiling when i saw the price.... trust me,here in europe fender basses cost a lot more than in the USA.
The only way to have one at the same cost is to be lucky with a squier and then customize that with fender original pick ups!!! 8)
