Hello all! I am new here and want to say hello to everyone. Also, we recently had a new addition to the family and I want to relate the experience.

They just happened to have a black American Standard J-Bass marked down one day in November at the local GS. We plugged her into a Bassman 250 115 combo and wow! We were both sold. While he was playing drums, I bought the beauty and snuck her out to the trunk.

We are so very pleased with the quality, playability and tone. :D I have always liked the Jazz and my son has tried out many of them over the last 3 years or so. He is only 8 years-old, but has an extreme proficiency for guitar & bass. He always seemed to "get around on" the J-Bass better than the others, and the sound can't be beat.

He has been playing his new J-bass every day and sounds amazing. Aquiring this wonderful instrument has improved his playing even more. Oh, and I get to play her too. Thanks for the quality Fender!

SilverLesterStd,

Welcome to the forums. You are going to love it here.

Now. about that new Jazz bass. So you bought it for your son who is only 8 and has the hands to play a Jazz? That is fantastic for you. I love having my kids involved in my music. Both of my daughters are taking piano lessons right now, but I know one or both will be Fender players. :D

If you look at my Christmas Present post, you can see the 62 Reissue that they helped me build.

Also, I really appreciate the tip of the hat to thank Fender for their instruments and quality. You just can't beat them.

Good luck with that musical family.

Nice. Now all you need is a black pickguard on there and you are set.

Black would be cool, but we've bigger fish to fry for now. Anyhow, the boy is a huge Geddy Lee fan. Thanks

It was on the shelf at GC. Maple is an option on the Jazz. This neck is the sweetest I have ever played. Also, I just LOVE the glossy finish on the neck & fretboard. I've never felt a faster glossy finished neck that was brand new. :o I'm not trying to start a GAS attack, and I don't work for Fender, but you really need to check one of these with a maple fretboard.

Reese tried out a bunch of basses at the Atlanta Bass gallery recently, but none played quite like this one. But I must give props to the ABG. This shop was nothing short of awesome for picking out THE base for you. They also have tons of amps, etc. to choose from. The shop had a gorgeous P-bass with flatwounds on it for a great price, but I didn't have the cabbage to pull the triger. Wow, what tone!

I still favor the Jazz over others. Reese's hands are far from full grown and fit the Jazz much better.

Thanks for the welcome. It sounds like you're going to have the whole band soon. :) I dunno if Rees has the hands yet, but he is a can-do young man. If it can be done by an 8 year-old on a bass or 6 string, Reese will make it happen. I don't know what else to say, but I have seen it too many times with him. If you get a chance, check out his vid link that I posted in the Lounge.
