Hi all
as im a newb ILL get the drinks in what you having?

Anyway i didn't come here for nothing I have loads of question so ILL start with one at a time.

can anyone tell me why my American standard corona jazz bass has huge channels routed out for the pickup with exposed wiring and a hole drilled into the body?

Is it so that anyone thinking of having a nice sunburst finish without the scratch can forget it? then they'd have to spend $4000 on a Jaco relic custom shop bass.

Or is it so that Basses can be knocked out fast and therefore fender can make more money quicker?

Its part of the process when Fender went to CNC machines to carve their bass and guitar bodies. The bodies are made so that they can be routed from the top with no pesky holes drilled between cavities. That makes for a faster and safer way to manufacture a bass but not good for those Jazz players who want to remove their pickguard. The good side of this is that it makes it easier to shield the routes with foil tape.
They don't make them like they used to.
