Hey there,

I have a dilemma: I have a Fender American Series Jazz and an EB Stingray. I picked up the Stingray because the Jazz kept getting lost in the mix, and the MM was absolutely the solution - it sounds perfect to me. On the other hand, the Jazz plays far better for me - I love the way it feels.

So my question is which one to get rid of.

I'm also considering trying to modify the Jazz to give it more of the aggressive/hi-fi nature of the Stingray, and was considering an Aguilar OBP-3 plus SD Hot Stacks - does anyone have any experience with this type of experiment?

Thanks!

Totally different basses. The pickup location (can't change), the pickup, the electronics (active on the MM).

The sound you like is the MM...is the same reason I sold my MM to get a Fender Jazz bass. You like the MM sound.

You said are getting lost in the mix, what kind of mix (genre, instrumentation)? The Fender bass sound seems to work with just about any mix. Unless of course you are being overcome with volume. Again, if the MM sounds good to you, that is what matters. I guess you need to have it setup.

It is a hard decision because both of those basses are great... in my opinion the jazz plays and looks better and the musicman sounds better out of the box (active electronics). If it were me i would more then likely sell the musicman and use the money for parts for the jazz find some hotter pickups and maybe an active DI box (radial makes an amazing one as well as EBS) and try that out... with the box youll be able to cut through the mix anywhere and (if u get the right one) you wont have to lug your amp to every single gig
