However, I will be going with a MIA because I do prefer to have my money going to America. One of the reasons our economy sucks is because many companies have outsourced to other countries.

Buy American.

I agree.

Everyone is different, to each his own. And plus there are alot of "gear snobs". If it didn't cost $2500, then it's not good enough, it's a piece of junk. I played with a guitarist that had a $3000 PRS guitar and felt that if you didn't have the same you weren't worth his time. I only played with him a few times, a difference of musical opinions. As long as it gets the job done and you are happy with it.

I've found that every guitar is different, no matter how much they cost, when you're searching, play every one you can get your hands on. When it's right, you'll know it. The first time I picked up my MIM Precision, I was hooked. It feels every bit as good as any Precision I've played since. Why some feel so good and are made as well as they are is beyond me. Friends who have played it are amazed.

I've played identical basses that just plain sucked. I'd buy another MIM if I found one as good as mine in a heartbeat, still have that "old school" thing in my head that I want an american.

Time will tell but, I will keep my MIM.

The MIA are very nice, BUT I do not like the huge frets on them   , I know the new MIM have the same style frets now, but my MIM's are from the 90's before that change was made.

If I was to buy a new MIA Jazz it would be one of the re-issues not an american std

well... I've tried out a Reggie Hamilton MIM 4string a couple of times now and scary enough to say.... it has made me come back to a "Fender" mindset in a huge way.

Definitely going to try and get that and hopefully a fretless Tony Franklin before the year's out.

and again, it really does come down to the player and the bass. I've got an old Vantage fretless 4 that I picked up for $150 @ a pawn shop and that thing has paid for itself many times over with sessions I've used it on. So again, feel the bass, if it feels good... then PLAY IT !! :D

Between the time I wrote my original post and now I'm purchasing a MIM P bass. Went to the local music store just to putz around and picked this guitar up and found I couldn't put it down. When back a couple of days later and it still felt right -- so I put it on layaway.

That is awesome. Sounds to me like you did the right thing. I like have said in other posts, don't pay attention to where its made, go by feel. Most people would be surprised to look at "the one" they picked. Good job.

Just went and looked at the tour online. Very nice. I get tired of reading reviews where people make excuses that it's MIM. I can't imagine Fender wanting to put out a bad product and you'd think the employees of Fender-Mexico are proud of their jobs.

I would say they are yery proud of their work. Check this link out of a tour of the Mexican factory. I was very impressed.
