Bass Player Magazine did their 2008 Readers' Choice Awards and the Geddy Lee Jazz Bass ranked in the top ten in the following categories:

Best Value Award (4th)
Best Bass Between $700 and $1000 (5th)

I too have one of these and have had nothing but compliments on its appearance and tone. I also replaced the white pickguard with a black one as I have always dug the black-on-black look. The block inlays scream '70s and most bass players ask me, "What year is it?" I put BadAss bridges on all my basses (the sustain is insane), so this one saved me that upgrade.

Used, these basses sell anywhere from $400 to $700 dollars, so shop around and you will likely find one far under the list price ($1299, but GC has them for $999).

Here's a pic of mine with the black pickguard.

Thanks, guys. :) I have always had a thing for black basses with white binding. The first time I say an Aerodyne, I was sold on looks alone. This one has Seymour Duncan Quarterpound Bassline pickups on it plus the BadAss bridge. The sound can range from vintage to modern with just a bit of tweaking of the volumes controls.

There is/was an Aerodyne at my local GC. I liked it alot but they would not budge on the price. It was an 05, and they were selling it as new.

I didn't know that Gary Lee Weinrib (Geddy Lee) played a Fender. I used to play a black Rickenbacker 4100 back in the late 70's and early 80's. I think that's all he used back then. But even this, I wanted a Fender Jazz bass because they were so much easier to play and they sounded cleaner, but my band mates told me they would get rid of me if I did.

This is from Wikipedia:

For his first local gigs in the early 1970s and Rush's debut album, Lee used a Fender Precision Bass. From Fly By Night onward, Lee favored Rickenbacker basses, particularly the 4001 model, and a Fender Jazz Bass which is heard on Permanent Waves, Moving Pictures and Signals and supporting tours. In 1981, Lee began using the compact, headless Steinberger bass, which he used occasionally on the supporting tour for Signals and for many tracks on their follow-up, Grace Under Pressure. From 1985 to 1992, Lee used British Wal basses. He switched back to Fender Jazz Basses for the recording of Counterparts in 1993, and has been using them virtually exclusively since, heard on albums Test For Echo, Vapor Trails, Feedback and Snakes & Arrows. However, he used a Fender Jaco Pastorius Tribute fretless replica bass for the song "Malignant Narcissism" on Snakes & Arrows, and a Fender Custom Shop Jazz with an Alder Body and a Flamed Maple top in Transparent Red for songs in an alternate tuning during the last several tours.

In 1998, Fender released the Geddy Lee Jazz Bass.[15] This signature model is a recreation of Lee's favorite bass, a 1972 Fender Jazz that he bought in a pawn shop in Kalamazoo, Michigan. On all of his basses, Lee uses Rotosound Swing Bass 66 Stainless Steel round-wound strings. Lee once again used his Rickenbacker 4001 for the performance of "A Passage To Bangkok" on the 2007 and 2008 Snakes & Arrows Tour.

I've tried a lot of basses before buying the Geddy Lee Signature and its sound is one of the greatest for the price! In fact, you can make it sound very bassy and very crunchy! You won't regret your purchase! Peace

Awesome setup in the pic. How do you like the Ovation? I am considering buying one myself. Also, how does the Ampeg cab suit you?

I mainly use the Ovation as an acoustic, only used it in electric mode once for a small acoustic gig. It sounds good if you don't play it hard, but can get a bit 'buzzy' at the bridge if that is your style. The sound is plenty loud for practice purposes (my main use for it), but it gets drowned out on its own when an acoustic guitar is played along with it (in unplugged mode).

As for the Ampegs, there are no complaints other than shear weight (the head is 80 lbs. plus the weight of its road case, and the cabinet is 165 lbs.). I may be downsizing to the SVT-610 which is 50 lbs. lighter.

Tommy, you got some nice stuff for being of such a young age. In time you will have some even better stuff and will turn out to be a great bassist. That couch on the other hand.....
