Has anyone here tried humbucking pickups on a jazz bass? I'm really curious because I definitely prefer the feel, playability, and versatility of a J over just about any other bass, but I think I like more punch than I'm getting from my single coils. My first real bass was an old Aria J copy which I absolutely loved, and I'm pretty sure the pickups on it were humbuckers. The bass that I'm considering putting them on NOW is a new J with active.[/img]

I hope someone can give you and answer to this soon. Welcome to the forums either way. I never played with humbucking pups. Which ones are you considering?

I haven't got that far in my pickup shopping yet. I'm hoping someone out there might have some experience with this and can give some suggestions. I do have a Bass Lines pickup on my '51 P reissue that I like A LOT, I can't remember the exact model, but a similar sound from my J would be great I'm thinking.

Also, I've thought about putting in one humbucker and keeping one original single coil. It seems like this would give me more options and sound choices. My first instinct would be humbucker for the neck and single coil at the bridge but if anyone has any thoughts on that I'm listenin'.

If you are willing to rout the pickup cavity , try out the EMG soapbars like the Sadowsky basses! Or maybe the Seymour Duncan bassline soapbars !
If you dont want to rout the body you can get the humbuckers with single coil dimensions .

Yes! and Di Marzio too and I think that SD too as well as other manufacturers like Bartolini ,the Fender noiseless pickups are humbuckers in a single coil too.

So, jlarocho, do you have humbuckers on a J yourself? PowerJazzBass, it appears that you do have that setup. How do you like it?

Mine are just active, I don't think EMG makes the humbucking single wide J tho. I could be wrong. I don't recall reading it when I got it.

I prefer the single coil sound on my jazz basses, but I have a Steinberger with humbuckers soapbar style and it sounds great . EMG's are great pickups . I dont think that they make humbucker in single coil style. Now Seymour Duncan makes the staked humbuckers or that is humbuckers in single coil look.

Thanks. As I mentioned I had a stacked Seymour Duncan Bass Line on my '51 P reissue that I'm really fond of. I guess I'll have to do the same to my J.
