Last year i bought a american deluxe 5 string jazz bass. now im kinda getting sick of the incredibly sharp tone from the active pick-ups.
What im wondering is, is there any way of changing out the actives an getting a set of vintage passives put in? Is it possible or would i just be wasting my time?

Anything is possible.

IMO You spent alot of money on a really nice bass. Why not just buy a MIM or better passive Jazz? Doing that type of mod could come back to bite you when it comes time to sell it. If I was in the market for a used American Deluxe 5-string Jazz bass, I would be weary about buying a bass that had been tinkered with in that way. JMO

No pics = no bass btw.

You can change the pickups to a passive configuration.

But, I would check-out the new American Standards. The bar has been raised with many wonderful upgrades.
