Hey guys, did anyone notice the 2nd price increase for Geddy Lee sig this year. It started with $799 this year, then in about March it went to $849, now the going price is $999 - - http://bass-guitars.musiciansfriend.com ... sku=517881 I wonder why? Nothing else seems to be going up, if anything some of the list price of the Fender basses have been going down. Weird stuff.

Guitar Center is doing the same price - I know they're under the same corporate umbrella: http://www.guitarcenter.com/Fender-Gedd ... 1149716.gc

Why....... Just watch the news. The value of the good old American Dollar is through the basement!

The more it drops in values, the more is costs to get export products into the USA.

OK, but how many do they have in stock that's really new. How many people buy these basses and get a Geddy that's from last year build code, before the dollar sank as bad as now?

That does not matter. Most Fender dealers are required to sell them for the prices set forth by Fender. That is why Fender prices are pretty much the same no matter where you look. Allot of companies do that. In a nut shell, no discounting unless Fender says so. Kinda like gas, they are always changing the prices even if they have old gas in the tanks.

The only place you might find cheap Fenders is at small shops that buy overstocks from other stores. Since they are not buying directly from Fender, they can charge what they want.

Got to agree with everyone, seems that Fender, and or, the Musicians Fiend/Guitar Center giant has a plan.

While the Geddy is a nice bass, for the extra few bucks, an American Standard is a better buy. While I really like the block inlays, I have a hard time getting past the fact that they're painted on.

Actually Fender set the MSRP, not the price sold by individual dealer. I guess to get a good deal on these basses, buy local hopefully you get old stock so you can get a better deal. They generally run up to 30% discount of MSRP, on most stuff. That's what my local shop seem to sell the new Fenders for.

While the subject is the Geddy, I'm really considering the Squier Vintage with the maple neck, inlays and, natural body. I've played it at three different Guitar Centers, all of them played and sounded great.

Now here's the sad story. The first time I saw it, was at G.C. in Boardman, Ohio. It was on sale for $219.00 and I didn't buy it, dumb $@!!

My main bass is the Precision but, as all of you, it's good to have many basses. Now that winter is almost here, they can bunch up for warmth.

Would you believe my wife couldn't understand that.

Anyway, check out the Squier, it's a good excuse to get out and see what else you can buy.

I don't care if it goes off topic. I have 2 Squiers already. I have the VM and the Deluxe Jazz V. I really like them both.

As far the wife not understanding, they never do unless they play a guitar/bass. Cuz if they play piano, they wouldn't understand why you should have multiple guitars.

I can't fault her for anything, she spends our money on the kids, never on herself...so when I spend money and she does the guilt trip thing I just take it - more like ignore it

I agree. Mine doesn't guilt me, she just looks at me as if I just grew another head and was speaking Chinese.

I think being creative is hand in hand with OCD. Why else do we strive and commit the time, effort and cash to our pursuit?

Just for the record, I'm not going to drive myselof nuts over buying another bass. With the rig I have, I have exactly what I want. The Precision has always been my first love and , the Sansamp gives me all the Jazz sound I need.

Back to the subject, I see them raisisg prices like the oil companies do, just cause it's there, let's make some more profit.

Yeah, I'm done with my arsenal for now. The Fender will always be my main axe anyways. The Vintage Modified is a great back up, the 5 string, well, it's a Squier, but it sounds really good, and it's a 5 string with active pups for under $300. If I have extra cash I'd buy a Trace Elliot or a Carvin stack. For now, not gigging or being in a band anymore, the rig I have is more than enough - 500w 1/2 stack.
